SteveSince first discovering the magic, black box which could freeze a moment in time, Stephen Barrie has been both fascinated and continually amazed by photography. Although originally science trained and with a background in research and education, photography has always been central to his life and eventually he succumbed to its allure and allowed it to take over completely.
His work, which covers an eclectic mix of subjects, has been used by a number of organisations, appeared in various publications, purchased by members of the public, and achieved success in photographic competitions. Today, as an Essex based photographer, he is a consultant for a national marketing company but is fortunate in being able to work largely on whatever interests him – he can see and interpret his world through his lens – these are his personal reflections.
Stephen Barrie: “For me there are no limits – anyone can take photographs of anything but you will need practice in order to produce consistently good images – the world is there to be seen as you wish to see it. I encourage you all to get out there and try for yourselves, create your own personal reflections. In the meantime I hope you enjoy looking at the images in this website as much as I’ve enjoyed capturing them and should you wish to use my services for any projects, private or commercial, please get in touch.”

In this section you’ll find a number of galleries with examples of images which have meaning for me, they capture moments or places which invoke fond memories.

These personal reflections involve ‘things’ I’ve seen, heard or done which have have evoked feelings of amusement, anger, awe, disgust, etc. I guess it could involve almost anything and I  really have no idea how or even whether it will grow. Starting with the absolute beginner, this section suggests some simple ideas to improve your photography. “My basic philosophy is ‘don’t be afraid – just try it’. You don’t need expensive equipment to take good photographs – the most important element is you – what you ‘see’ and what you ‘feel’ will have the biggest impact on an image. What you will gradually learn, with lots of practice, is how to communicate vision and evoke emotion in others. Best wishes …….”

In this section you will find some show pieces which are the outcome of projects or assignments. The images in these exhibits may have been subjected to manipulation using a variety of software applications in order to create a particular visual effect. These exhibits will automatically run as ‘slide shows’. Each ‘exhibit’ will be ‘online’ for a limited time and any enquiries regarding purchase, etc., can be addressed to me directly – stephenbarrie@voxsilens.com.
